Michael Ward Cleared of Rape Charges and Overcome with Emotion in Court

Netflix’s Top Boy star Michael Ward was acquitted of all sexual offence charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The jury found him not guilty of two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault after a trial that lasted two weeks. Ward, 28, denied the allegations that he raped a woman in the back of a Mercedes following a New Year’s party in east London. He maintained the encounter was fully consensual and emotional tears followed each count as they were read out in court. Friends and family cheered in relief when the verdict was delivered. Outside court, Ward’s solicitor said the long police investigation had taken a profound toll on the actor’s life and career. Ward expressed gratitude to the jury and support from loved ones, and acknowledged survivors of sexual violence, urging their voices to be heard. He now plans to resume his acting work.
