Open Letter to Atiku Abubakar: A Ranching and Hay Production Model
Dear Sir, I watched a video in which you spoke about running your cattle ranch for years without major challenges. Given that experience, I believe your ranch could help demonstrate a scalable model for commercial cattle production in Nigeria. First, establish an independent hay-production business in another state. Even a small operation on about 10 hectares could produce hay for sale to ranches. Your ranch could become an early customer while other livestock farmers copy the model. Storage facilities would be the major initial investment. If the ranch has about 1,000 cattle, is profitable and has a reliable record of paying workers, it could be valued for a public listing. Selling a minority stake could raise capital to establish additional ranches while retaining controlling ownership. The new ranches could buy feed from independent hay producers, just as food and manufacturing businesses buy raw materials from suppliers. With sound management, this approach could expand ranching, create jobs and strengthen Nigeria's livestock value chain. I wish you success.
