Why Tinubu’s Drug Proceeds Forfeiture Case Should Be Put to Rest
I see the case like a POS operator receiving a kidnapper’s money without knowing its source. Receiving the funds does not automatically make the operator part of the crime. Tinubu was reportedly working as an accountant and money exchanger when proceeds linked to drug activity were exchanged through an account connected to him. The person involved reportedly identified the exchanger, and the transaction was traced to Tinubu’s account. The account reportedly held more than $1 million at the time, but about $440,000 linked to the drug proceeds was forfeited. My point is that this was not presented as Tinubu’s personal money or proof that he participated in drug trafficking. Many Nigerians may not know the full details of the case. I believe the opposition and its supporters should stop revisiting what I consider a settled matter.
