Odegbami Sees Fresh Hope for Nigerian Sports Reforms
Former Super Eagles captain Segun Odegbami says recent developments in Nigerian football point to the possibility of long-awaited sports reforms. He credits President Bola Tinubu’s backing and the National Sports Commission’s handling of the Nigeria Football Federation crisis as important early steps. He also highlights plans to honour members of Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic football team, alongside the late Stephen Keshi and world record holder Tobi Amusan, at a sports diplomacy event later in 2026. Odegbami praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for completing the process of allocating promised land to members of the 1996 Olympic team. He urged other state governments to reclaim and rebuild historic sporting facilities, including stadiums in Ibadan and Calabar.
