I Recruited My Friend Into a Ponzi Scheme and He Lost ₦5 Million
I was struggling to keep up with rent and living costs on my salary when I joined an investment scheme that promised 10% monthly returns. After receiving a few early payouts, I ignored several warning signs and kept reinvesting my savings. When I became worried, the woman who recruited me encouraged me to bring in other people. I introduced my friend, Tobi, because I believed he could afford the risk. He invested ₦1 million at first, received a payout, and later put in ₦5 million. The scheme eventually collapsed. I lost ₦940,000, Tobi lost far more, and the organiser blocked us both. Tobi stopped speaking to me, and I am still dealing with the guilt of bringing him into something I had already begun to suspect was a scam.
