Ogun Police Relaunch Operation VELVET to Tackle Traffic Offences
The Ogun State Police Command has reactivated Operation VELVET across the state’s 20 local government areas to enforce traffic laws and improve safety on major roads. Police will target one-way driving, reckless driving, unauthorised sirens, altered or concealed number plates, unlicensed driving, overloading and parking that blocks traffic. The Commissioner of Police has directed officers to carry out the operation professionally and respect citizens’ rights. Personnel were warned not to use the exercise for extortion, harassment, unlawful detention or unauthorised vehicle impoundment. Motorists, fleet operators and transit workers have been urged to comply with traffic regulations and avoid offering bribes to evade penalties.
