UK Confirms Koi Herpesvirus Outbreak and Restricts Fish Movement

UK authorities have confirmed an outbreak of koi herpesvirus disease at a fish-growing facility in Aspley Guise, Milton Keynes. The virus affects common and ornamental carp and can cause high fish mortality, particularly in water temperatures between 16°C and 28°C. The disease does not pose a risk to human health. However, officials have restricted the movement of live aquatic animals, fish eggs and reproductive materials within the designated area without written approval from the Fish Health Inspectorate. Affected facilities will undergo monitoring, while operators must report suspected cases or further fish deaths. Authorities may also require biosecurity measures, removal of infected fish, and cleaning and disinfection of affected sites.
