Open Letter: Peter Obi Should Let Verified Records Answer Anambra Debt Claims

I write as a concerned Nigerian who respects Peter Obi’s public-service record and his role in national debate. This is sincere advice, not an attack. The Anambra State Government has challenged claims that he left office without debt or outstanding obligations. The dispute covers alleged loans, unpaid liabilities and an ecological fund reportedly worth about ₦2.1 billion. Obi has rejected the allegations and maintained that he settled all due obligations before leaving office. Because the matter is now public and contested, I believe restraint would better protect his credibility. Rather than repeatedly restating absolute claims, he should allow audited records and independent verification to address the allegations. Careful, evidence-based responses will serve his public reputation better than constant rebuttals.
