Doctor Explains Palliative Care After Ogogo’s Daughters Seek Help for Stage-Four Cancer

A doctor has responded to appeals by the daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, over his reported stage-four cancer diagnosis. They said hospitals could no longer offer him chemotherapy and appealed for medical help, stressing that they were not seeking donations. The doctor said the phrase “hospitals are refusing to treat him” may wrongly suggest neglect. He explained that when stage-four cancer has spread and available treatments, including chemotherapy, have been explored, doctors may recommend palliative care. Palliative care focuses on managing pain and other symptoms, improving comfort and supporting a patient’s quality of life. The doctor also warned against unverified herbal remedies, saying they can cause further organ damage and complications. Ogogo’s family has not disclosed the actor’s full medical records or the advice of his treating doctors. The doctor said he was not involved in the actor’s care and urged the family to work closely with the medical team.
