BAL to Refurbish Basketball Court in Owerri as Part of Six-Court Africa Project
The Basketball Africa League has announced six refurbished basketball courts across Nigeria, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire as part of NBA Africa’s plan to build or renovate 1,000 courts across the continent over the next decade. In Nigeria, the Owerri court in Imo State is scheduled for refurbishment with support from Qatar Foundation, BAL ambassador Chiney Ogwumike and Queens of the Continent. The facility already serves more than 300 participants across the state. Planned upgrades include renovated changing rooms and bathrooms, improved lighting and better drainage. The court is expected to support organised sport, youth development and community activities, while also serving as the second BAL4HER court in Africa. The wider project includes courts in Saint-Louis, Abidjan, Joal, Dakar and Guédiawaye, with upgrades such as playing surfaces, seating, lighting, sanitation facilities and basketball equipment.
