Obedience to God: Lessons From David, Moses and Saul
David’s decision to take a census came from pride and reliance on the size of his army rather than God’s power. The result was a devastating plague in Israel, showing how disobedience can carry serious consequences. Moses also faced consequences when he struck the rock instead of speaking to it as God commanded. Saul lost his kingship after placing sacrifice above obedience. These examples remind us that God values obedience above outward religious acts. David, however, recognised his error, repented and obeyed God’s instruction to build an altar. God showed mercy and stopped the plague. May we listen attentively to God’s word, obey His instructions and never allow our prayers to become unacceptable before Him. Amen.
