Former Finance Minister and Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, Dies at 94

Former Minister of Finance and Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, has died at the age of 94. He died on Thursday at Alliance Hospital in Abuja after receiving treatment for several weeks. He had earlier been admitted to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto. Alhaji Abubakar served as Minister of State for Budget and Planning in 1988 and Minister of Finance from 1990 to 1991. He also held senior civil-service roles, represented Nigeria diplomatically in the UK, and served as Sardaunan Sokoto. His funeral prayer was scheduled for Sultan Bello Mosque in Sokoto, followed by burial at the royal cemetery, Hubbaren Shehu. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and other relatives.
