Golden Eaglets Eliminated From WAFU B U-17 Championship After Côte d’Ivoire Draw

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been eliminated from the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso after a 1-1 draw with Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group B match. Côte d’Ivoire took the lead in the 17th minute through Alex Bamba. Abiodun John equalised for Nigeria five minutes from time, but the result was not enough to secure a semi-final place. Nigeria had earlier lost 2-1 to Niger Republic in their opening match. The elimination means the Golden Eaglets will miss the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and, consequently, the 2027 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. Nigeria last appeared at the U-17 World Cup in 2019, reaching the round of 16 in Brazil.
