Court Limits CCTV Playback in El-Rufai’s ₦10bn Fundamental Rights Suit
A Federal High Court in Abuja has allowed the ICPC and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to play selected portions of CCTV footage in his ₦10 billion fundamental rights suit. Justice Chigozie Onah declined El-Rufai’s request for the full six-hour recording to be played in open court. The judge gave each side 20 minutes, noting that the footage may contain sensitive details about the ICPC facility. Any full viewing, the court said, would have to take place in chambers. El-Rufai alleges that the ICPC unlawfully denied his wife and son access to him while he was in custody. The commission disputes the claim, saying access restrictions followed alleged security breaches. The case was adjourned to November 3 for hearing of the substantive applications.
