ISWAP Commanders and VBIED Specialist Surrender to Nigerian Troops in Yobe
Two ISWAP commanders and a suspected VBIED expert surrendered to Nigerian troops in Geidam, Yobe State on June 8. The men, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, gave themselves up to 159 Battalion. Mohammed served under a local leader known as “Baa Shuwa,” while Umar was involved in bomb-making and storage logistics. In Borno State, troops arrested two suspected terrorist informants in separate operations. One was detained in Damboa on June 9 with farm supplies allegedly destined for militants. He confessed to providing logistics and intelligence. The other informant was arrested the same day by 162 Amphibious Battalion and is under investigation. Troops also foiled an attempted attack on a military location after spotting armed suspects. A follow-up raid on June 10 recovered two decomposed corpses and a motorcycle. The Army reports these were militants neutralised in an earlier clash in Buni Yadi.
