Cross River Shuts 58 Unapproved Schools Across Four LGAs
The Cross River Government has closed 58 schools operating without Approval to Operate permits in Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Odukpani and Yakurr local government areas. Education Commissioner Stephen Odey said the action is part of a statewide effort to enforce education standards, protect learners and ensure schools operate in safe, properly regulated environments. School proprietors were asked to obtain the required approval before reopening. The government warned that any sealed school that resumes operations without authorisation will face sanctions. The enforcement exercise will continue across all 18 local government areas in the state. Authorities did not name the affected schools or say when compliant institutions may be allowed to reopen.
