Safety Concerns Mount Over Deteriorating Old Niger Bridge
Commuters and pedestrians are raising concerns about the condition of the Old Niger Bridge linking Anambra and Delta states. The bridge, which has long served as a major route between parts of the South-East and areas across the Niger, reportedly shows signs of deterioration. Some metal connections appear affected by rust, while bolts and nuts are alleged to have been removed by vandals. The road surface is also gradually wearing away. Relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of Works, should assess the bridge urgently and carry out necessary repairs. Leaving the damage unattended could put road users and pedestrians at serious risk.
