20 Prospective Corps Members Freed in Imo as Police Dispute Ransom Claim
Twenty prospective corps members abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State have been recovered after seven days in captivity, according to the Nigeria Police Force. Police said the victims were found at Amakohia Ubi Village on October 7 following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving multiple security agencies. The prospective corps members were taken to a facility in Owerri for medical assessment and treatment. A family member alleged that N6 million was paid to secure their release. However, the police and other reports credited the recovery to operations involving security agencies. The circumstances surrounding the ransom claim have not been independently confirmed. Security agencies are continuing efforts to identify and arrest those behind the abduction.
