NAFDAC Seeks Global Partners to Restart Vaccine Manufacturing in Nigeria
NAFDAC has called on international partners to support the establishment of modular vaccine manufacturing facilities in Nigeria. The agency says local production is needed to strengthen medicine security and reduce dependence on imports. At the Nigeria Pharma Manufacturers Expo in Lagos, NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said the agency has met eight of the nine requirements for medicines and vaccine benchmarking. She added that Nigeria could attain Vaccine Lot Release Maturity Level Four if local vaccine manufacturing is restored. Adeyeye said the 2024 executive order on incentives for local pharmaceutical manufacturers has supported the sector. She also said imports covered by the Five Plus Five and Ceiling initiatives fell by 70 per cent between 2021 and 2025. Manufacturers at the expo called for the incentives to be extended beyond March 2027, arguing that stable policies and investment are essential for pharmaceutical sovereignty.
