Benin Republic Beat Nigeria 6-3 to End Future Eagles’ U-15 World Cup Run
Nigeria’s Future Eagles have been eliminated from the Tier C competition at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival after losing 6-3 to Benin Republic in Baku, Azerbaijan. Nigeria had earlier defeated New Caledonia 7-0 in the Round of 32, but Benin Republic proved too strong in the Round of 16. Captain Timothy Ijach scored twice to take his tournament total to 11 goals, while Wisdom Boniface also found the net. The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the Tier C quarter-finals. The team will now play placement matches before the competition concludes on Friday, 30 October. The tournament is played in an eight-a-side format, with 20-minute halves and teams divided into six tiers based on their group-stage results.
