Tech CEO Urges Nigerian Youths to Build Skills Beyond Social Media
A tech executive has urged young Nigerians to spend more time building practical skills that can improve their employment and income prospects. He argued that many people devote long hours to social media, football debates and celebrity updates, but see skills such as Excel, digital analytics, sales, programming, design and artificial intelligence as too difficult to learn. Using a digital marketing vacancy as an example, he noted that entry-level roles can require practical knowledge of search engine optimisation, online advertising, copywriting, analytics and reporting. He urged graduates to invest deliberately in skills, entrepreneurship and problem-solving rather than relying only on job applications. He also called for a broader view of success, with more young people creating businesses, services and technologies that can provide jobs for others.
