ADC Demands Investigation into Alleged Attacks on Opposition Members Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress has called for thorough investigations into alleged attacks on its members, supporters, meetings and property in several states ahead of the 2027 general elections. At a press briefing in Abuja, the party said it had documented incidents from July 2025 to September 2026 in Kaduna, Kebbi, Ekiti, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Osun, Kogi and Enugu. It said responsibility for some incidents had not been conclusively established, but raised concerns over their frequency and the response of security agencies. The party cited an attack on its Edo State secretariat and an alleged attack in Rivers State that it said led to the death of a member. It urged the police and other authorities to protect lawful political activities, investigate all reported incidents and prosecute anyone found responsible. The ADC said Nigerians must be able to support political parties, hold meetings and campaign without intimidation or violence.
