Niger Doctors Give 72-Hour Deadline to Free Kidnapped Colleague
The Niger State branch of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners has warned it will withdraw all health services if Dr Tony Eghagagara is not released within 72 hours. Dr Eghagagara, Head of Medical Services at New Bussa General Hospital in Borgu LGA, was abducted by bandits at his private clinic in Wawa town on April 22, 2026. The association’s emergency communique demands dedicated security for health workers and financial support for the doctor’s family during his captivity. The statement cautions that if the ultimatum expires without his release, doctors will shut down hospitals across the state and launch peaceful protests. It recalls recent attacks in Lapai and Kagara as proof of the growing dangers facing medical personnel.
