Why ₦15m and a Clean Bank Statement May Not Prevent a Student Visa Refusal

Having ₦10 million or ₦15 million available does not automatically make a student-visa application strong. Many applicants focus on tuition, proof of funds and flight costs, then assume the visa will follow. But visa officers also assess whether your study plan makes sense within your academic, work and financial history. A strong application shows clear profile fit. Your proposed course should ideally build on your previous education or career, not look like a random shortcut out of Nigeria. For example, someone with a master’s degree applying for a lower qualification, or a bank worker suddenly applying for public health without a credible link, may face difficult questions. Your timeline and finances must also be easy to explain. Long study or work gaps, undocumented business experience, or a large recent deposit that does not match your declared income can create doubts. Age is not a ban on studying abroad, but applicants with major family or career responsibilities need a particularly convincing reason for starting a new academic path. Before paying a non-refundable school deposit, review your history from secondary school until now. Can you clearly connect your qualifications, work experience, source of funds and chosen course? Do not copy another person’s migration route just because it worked for them. A route that fits a fresh graduate may be far riskier for someone with a complex career history.
