EFCC Investigation Does Not Bar Anyone From Campaigning, Wike Says
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says an EFCC investigation alone should not stop anyone from serving on a campaign council or canvassing votes for a candidate. Speaking during a media parley in Port Harcourt, Wike defended the inclusion of former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu in the APC campaign structure for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Edu was suspended in January 2024 amid allegations of financial impropriety and has been investigated by the EFCC. Wike argued that people facing criminal allegations have previously contested and won elections. He maintained that an investigation is not a conviction and should not automatically prevent a person from participating in political activities. Edu has not been publicly found guilty of any offence linked to the EFCC investigation.
