The way we sleep can affect our comfort, energy, digestion and pain levels. Most adults need seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night for body repair, memory, mood and immune health. Sleeping on your side works well for many people. It may reduce snoring and reflux, especially when lying on the left side. Place a pillow between your knees to support your hips. Sleeping on your back can also support the spine when you use a small pillow under your knees, but it may worsen snoring or sleep apnoea for some people. Stomach sleeping may reduce snoring, but it can strain the neck and lower back. Use a thin pillow, or no pillow, if this is the only position that feels comfortable. For reflux, avoid lying down immediately after a heavy meal and consider raising your head slightly. Keep a regular sleep schedule, reduce screen time before bed, limit late caffeine and heavy meals, and make your room cool, dark and quiet. Which sleeping position helps you wake up feeling rested?
