Aviation Unions Threaten to Picket Airlines Over Unremitted Ticket Charges
Two aviation unions have threatened to picket airlines accused of withholding billions of naira in Ticket Sales Charges collected from passengers. The warning followed the expiry of a seven-day ultimatum issued on August 3, 2026, after an earlier 14-day notice reportedly failed to secure payment. The unions said the charges are meant to support key aviation agencies, including the NCAA, NAMA, NSIB, NCAT and NiMet. They warned that non-remittance could affect safety oversight, air navigation, accident investigation, weather services and aviation training. The Airline Operators of Nigeria rejected the unions' claims, stating that it has no transactional relationship with the labour groups. The dispute could disrupt airline operations if the planned picketing goes ahead.
