How Tribalism Undermines National Unity in Nigeria
Tribalism remains Nigeria’s most persistent challenge. Many citizens defend leaders simply because they share the same ethnic background, even when their actions harm others. As soon as power shifts to a different group, those same supporters become fierce critics. This cycle has repeated for decades with little opposition to the next “in-group.” Politicians exploit these divisions, adding religious tension to win elections. Until Nigerians reject this hypocritical loyalty and hold all leaders accountable, our country cannot move forward.
