Uniport Appoints Prof. Friday Onuodu to Lead New Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office

The University of Port Harcourt has named Professor Friday Eleonu Onuodu as Director of its Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office. This move underscores the institution’s commitment to innovation, research commercialization, and academic excellence. A veteran Professor of Computer Science, Prof. Onuodu brings over 18 years of teaching and research experience in AI, IT, data science, cybersecurity, and intelligent systems. He holds a PhD and Master’s in Computer Science from Uniport and a BTech in Mathematics/Computer Science from FUT Minna. Prof. Onuodu emphasizes that without robust IP frameworks, university innovations lose value. “Our goal is to ensure research outputs translate into tangible societal and economic benefits,” he said. Colleagues describe him as a visionary leader passionate about mentoring students. Under his leadership, IPTTO aims to bridge academia and industry, protect innovations, secure patents, and drive technology transfer for national development.
