Rabiu Kwankwaso Resigns from NNPP, Seeks Broader Political Alignment

Rabiu Kwankwaso Resigns from NNPP, Seeks Broader Political Alignment — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect. He cited shifting political dynamics and the need for a strategic realignment as key reasons for his departure. In his resignation statement, Kwankwaso described the move as difficult but necessary. He expressed deep gratitude to the party’s leadership, singling out National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their support. He also thanked the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and grassroots members—from ward to state level—for their loyalty and commitment. Kwankwaso acknowledged the Kwankwasiyya Movement and other supporters for standing by him. The former presidential candidate did not name a new platform but vowed to continue working towards a more prosperous Nigeria through whichever political vehicle he chooses next.

What do you think motivated Kwankwaso to leave NNPP now, and how might this impact his political influence?

You got it, he's after a bigger stage, and this move could seriously up his influence game.

Hmm, not sure breaking away guarantees more clout. Sometimes shaking the boat just makes waves without real progress.

Frequent party shifts often reflect power plays more than ideology, so Kwankwaso's realignment might signal ambition rather than genuine policy change.

I'm not convinced this is mere maneuvering; purposeful realignment can be necessary to gather support for meaningful reforms.

If Kwankwaso wants genuine support, he should outline clear policy priorities and engage grassroots networks before announcing any new political alignment.
