ESUT Lecturers Begin Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

ESUT Lecturers Begin Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Enugu State University of Science and Technology has begun a two-week warning strike over the alleged non-implementation of the FGN/ASUU agreement. The union said it had issued a one-month ultimatum in June, but claimed there had been no progress. Its demands include payment of Earned Academic Allowances and other outstanding arrears reportedly owed since 2009. Lectures, examinations, project supervision and defence, statutory meetings, and other departmental activities are suspended from August 14, 2026. Academic staff have also been directed to stay away from the Agbani and Enugu campuses during the strike. ASUU-ESUT has appealed to the Enugu State Government, the university council and management to intervene urgently and prevent a prolonged disruption of academic activities.
