Smart DNA Report: 23.6% Of Tested Men Were Not Biological Fathers
Smart DNA Nigeria says 23.6% of paternity tests in its 2025/2026 reporting period returned negative results. The figure means the tested man was not the biological father in those cases, down slightly from 24.0% in the previous period. The company cautioned that the result does not mean one in four Nigerian children has a different biological father. Its clients are people who already have doubts and voluntarily seek testing, so they are not representative of all Nigerian families. Most tests, 87%, were private “peace of mind” tests. Men initiated 78.6% of first contacts, while Lagos accounted for 75.1% of classified cases. The report said DNA testing can establish biological relationships but cannot explain the family or relationship circumstances behind each request.
