Is ₦350,000 Worth a Six-Day Job and ₦90,000 Monthly Commute to Ikeja?
I received a job offer from a Chinese company in Ikeja with a monthly salary of ₦350,000. After calculating transport from my area, I realised I could spend about ₦80,000 to ₦90,000 every month commuting. The schedule is Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. I have been working remotely, so the cost, long commute and six-day workweek do not seem worthwhile. Renting closer is also difficult because Lagos rent has become very expensive. Am I being unserious for considering turning down the offer? My brother believes a job that leaves me little time to socialise, learn new skills or grow can be risky, especially as I am nearing 30. For people living around Ayobo or Command in Ipaja, how do you manage commuting to Ikeja daily?
