Former Catholic Knight Arrested During Alleged Nnewi Land-Cleansing Ritual
Vigilantes in Nnewi, Anambra State, reportedly arrested Sir James Louis Okoye after he was seen carrying out what he described as a cleansing exercise for the town. Okoye was said to be dressed in red, with fresh palm fronds in his mouth and a bell in his hand, as he moved through the streets on Saturday, September 5. He reportedly told interrogators that Nnewi had been desecrated and that his actions were intended to cleanse the community. Okoye previously drew attention in January when he renounced Christianity during the opening of Our Lady of Assumpta Catholic Church. He had protested what he considered the failure to recognise the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's contribution to the church project. A video of his arrest has prompted mixed reactions online, including concerns about his wellbeing.
