US Forces Disable Gambia-Flagged Cargo Ship for Defying Iran Blockade
The US Central Command reports it struck the M/V Lian Star after the vessel ignored more than 20 warnings while sailing toward Iranian ports. On May 29, a US aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, halting its engine and stopping its transit. CENTCOM said the action is part of efforts to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports amid continuing regional tensions. Since the operation began, US forces have disabled five commercial vessels and redirected 116 to prevent shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. No details have been released on any crew injuries.
