Tansian University Students Locked Out as Rival Vice-Chancellors Issue Conflicting Fee Directives
Students returning to Tansian University in Umunya, Anambra State, were reportedly denied access to campus on October 19 amid a dispute over the institution’s ownership, leadership and school-fee accounts. Students said armed mobile police officers at the gate directed them to pay fees through an account linked to Tansian University Umunya Anambra State Ltd/Gte. Many students, including those who travelled long distances with their belongings, were left stranded outside the campus. The dispute involves Prof. E. U. Nwadialor, backed by the Incorporated Trustees of the Missionary Servants of the Church, and Rev. Fr. Prof. Nnamdi A. Nwankwo, appointed by the board of Tansian University Ltd/Gte. Both sides have issued separate payment instructions to students and parents. The National Universities Commission reportedly reaffirmed its recognition of the Missionary Servants of the Church as the university’s proprietor and questioned the authority of the Ltd/Gte administration. The police had not issued a public explanation for the reported deployment at the time of the report.
