Five Illegal Activities Often Linked to Fast Money in Nigeria—and Their Consequences

Some illegal activities are often portrayed as shortcuts to wealth, even though they cause serious harm and can lead to arrest, injury, death, or long prison sentences. These include commercial sex work and exploitation, online fraud, ritual-related scams and organ trafficking, drug dealing, and kidnapping. The money may look attractive, but the human and legal costs are severe. I am not encouraging anyone to engage in any of these activities. The focus should be on why desperation and the promise of quick wealth continue to make them appealing to some people.
