NAF to Continue Salaries of Personnel Killed in Ondo Crash Until Benefits Are Paid
The Nigerian Air Force says it will continue paying the salaries of personnel who died in the October 5 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, until their death benefits are paid to their next of kin. All 25 people on board the NAF ATR 42-500 aircraft died in the crash. At a meeting with bereaved families on Wednesday, the Air Force said the directive was meant to ease the immediate financial burden on affected households. The service said recovery efforts have been slowed by the swampy, waterlogged crash site, which requires specialist engineering support, dewatering and stabilisation. It added that investigators would not speculate on the cause of the crash until available evidence has been fully examined. The families were also offered psychological and spiritual support, while the Air Force pledged to keep them informed about the recovery operation, investigation and welfare arrangements.
