Why Hansi Flick Stopped Barcelona’s Move for Cristian Romero
Barcelona reportedly ended their pursuit of Tottenham defender Cristian Romero after head coach Hansi Flick decided the club did not need another centre-back. The club had also considered Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, but Flick was satisfied with his current defensive options after Barcelona won the 2025/26 La Liga title. Flick reportedly asked sporting director Deco to direct the available transfer funds towards strengthening the attack instead. Romero later joined Atlético Madrid in a deal worth up to €40 million and has made his debut for Diego Simeone’s side.
