Armed Bandits Burn Kwara Border Town Palace, Kidnap Emir’s Wives and Locals
Late Sunday night, heavily armed bandits stormed Yashikira in Baruten LGA, Kwara State. They set parts of the Emir’s palace ablaze and opened fire on nearby homes. Witnesses say the attackers overpowered local vigilantes and struck without resistance. Terrified residents fled into the bush as the gunmen moved through the community. The assailants abducted several people, including women, children and some of the Emir’s wives. Families are searching for missing loved ones while authorities have yet to confirm the number of victims. Locals blame porous border routes for repeated raids. They accuse security agencies of failing to act on earlier warnings about rising bandit activity around the area.
