1,648 Nigerians Travelled to South Africa in September, Down From 2,724 in 2025
South Africa recorded 835,380 overnight tourist arrivals in September 2026, according to Statistics South Africa. Neighbouring Southern African countries accounted for most of the visits. Mozambique led with 182,751 arrivals, followed by Zimbabwe with 178,966 and Lesotho with 127,152. In total, travellers from SADC countries made up 79% of all recorded tourist movements. Nigeria was South Africa’s fourth-largest African source market outside SADC, with 1,648 recorded arrivals. That was lower than the 2,724 Nigerians recorded in September 2025. The figures count border movements rather than unique travellers, meaning a person who crossed the border more than once during the month may have been counted multiple times.
