Kano Police Arrest 79 Suspects, Recover Weapons During Takutaha Celebrations

Kano State Police Command says it arrested 79 suspects for alleged offences during the 2026 Takutaha celebrations, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Police said dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered during coordinated operations across the state. The operations involved tactical units and divisions in areas including Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said the celebrations were largely peaceful due to intelligence-led security measures and cooperation from residents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other security agencies. The suspects are under investigation and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
