All 46 Kidnapped Pupils and Teachers Rescued in Oyo State
On July 10, security forces successfully freed all 39 pupils and 7 teachers abducted on May 15 from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. The Office of the National Security Adviser, police, army, DSS and other agencies tracked the victims to a camp inside Old Oyo National Park. During the rescue, officers encountered improvised explosive devices that injured some personnel. Eight suspects were arrested and several others were killed. Governor Seyi Makinde warned that sustained operations in the North-west are driving terrorists southwards and urged southern states to prepare for similar threats. President Bola Tinubu has directed emergency agencies to work with the state government on medical care and relief support for the rescued pupils and teachers.
