LASHMA Trains Journalists as Lagos Expands Mandatory ILERA EKO Health Insurance
The Lagos State Health Management Agency has trained journalists on the Lagos State Health Scheme and the mandatory ILERA EKO health-insurance programme. The two-day session in Alausa focused on helping the media explain residents’ benefits, enrolment options, complaints procedures and access to care. LASHMA said enrolment is compulsory for Lagos residents and workers under the 2024 Executive Order. Individual premiums start at ₦15,000, while an Equity Fund supports vulnerable residents. The agency said more than 367,000 vulnerable people were enrolled between 2022 and June 2026. Officials also outlined enforcement plans, facility-readiness checks and emergency-care rules. Hospitals must stabilise patients with life-threatening emergencies before requesting insurance proof. Journalists were urged to report the scheme accurately while holding providers and the agency accountable for service failures.
