Omokri Says Tinubu’s FBI Files Are Not Proof of a Criminal Record

Reno Omokri has defended President Bola Tinubu’s opposition to releasing unredacted records held by the United States FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration. He argued that an FBI file does not automatically amount to a criminal record. Omokri said FBI databases can contain non-criminal information gathered during visa processing, background checks and other official procedures. He argued that such files may include sensitive personal, biometric and financial details that should not be made public. The dispute follows a Freedom of Information Act request by US transparency activist Aaron Greenspan for records relating to Tinubu. Tinubu’s lawyers have opposed full disclosure, citing privacy protections and arguing that the request is politically motivated. Opposition figures, however, say the President should support the release of the records to address public concerns. The US case concerns access to government documents and does not, by itself, establish criminal wrongdoing.
