Why Skilled Labour Seems Expensive to Many Nigerians
One thing I have noticed while doing business in Nigeria is that many customers are more willing to pay for parts than for the expertise needed to use those parts correctly. Someone may spend ₦200,000 on materials without hesitation, then question a ₦30,000 labour charge. In laptop repair, for example, a technician may identify a screen, cable, connector or motherboard fault within 30 minutes. What looks like a short job is backed by years of learning, tools, experience and the responsibility to avoid damaging the device. A cheaper, inexperienced option can easily create a more costly problem. I believe customers should look beyond the lowest price and ask whether a service provider is competent, equipped, accountable and willing to offer after-service support. At the same time, professionals should explain their charges clearly and deliver value that matches the price. Fair payment for skilled work helps businesses maintain quality and prevents expensive mistakes.
