Heroic Oklahoma Principal Tackles School Gunman, Is Shot Saving Students
Surveillance video from Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma shows Principal Kirk Moore confronting a gunman in the lobby. Moore lunged at 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins after the intruder ordered students to the ground and tried to shoot them. During the struggle, Moore was wounded in the leg but held down Hawkins until another staff member disarmed him. Hawkins admitted he planned to kill students and staff, inspired by the 1999 Columbine attack, using his father’s firearms without permission. He is now held on $1 million bail and faces charges including attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms. Authorities say Moore’s quick action prevented a potential massacre. The principal is recovering in hospital, and Hawkins is due for a preliminary hearing on May 8.
