Tinubu Announces $7bn Ogun Deep Seaport and Economic Zone Plan
President Bola Tinubu has announced a proposed investment package of more than $7 billion for the Gateway Deep Seaport and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun State. The agreements were signed in Paris between the Ogun State Government and DP World. The projects are expected to expand port capacity, support manufacturing and exports, and ease pressure on the Apapa and Tin Can Island port corridors. The proposed seaport in Ogun Waterside would have a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft to accommodate larger vessels. The accompanying 10,000-hectare economic zone is planned for processing, logistics, manufacturing and export activities. Tinubu said the projects could create more than 50,000 direct jobs when fully operational. He also pledged federal support for connecting road, rail and power infrastructure, while urging the state and investors to move from agreements to implementation.
