90-Year-Old Bodybuilder Wins 17th National Title in Japan
Toshisuke Kanazawa won the 85-and-over category at the All Japan Masters Fitness Championships in Hiroshima, a day after his 90th birthday. The victory was his 17th national title and further established him as Japan’s oldest competitive bodybuilder. Kanazawa began bodybuilding at 20 after competing as a swimmer. He won the Mister Japan title at ages 24 and 27, retired from competition at 34, and returned to serious training at 50 to encourage his wife during periods of ill health. He maintains a strict routine built around brown rice, natto, eggs and miso soup. Despite acknowledging that age has reduced his strength, he says overcoming those limits through effort remains his way of life. He is expected to compete again at the Japan Championships in October.
