Two Rescued After Speedboat Sinks on Akwa Ibom Waterway
Two people were rescued after a speedboat travelling from Oron, Akwa Ibom State, to Cameroon sank on the Ibaka waterway in Mbo Local Government Area. The boat, named “LET’S PRAY”, was carrying goods when water reportedly began accumulating inside. Its driver was trying to adjust the seacock to drain the water when waves from another passing boat destabilised the vessel and caused it to sink. Marine Police officers on patrol rescued the driver and conductor. The police have urged boat operators to ensure vessels are seaworthy, avoid overloading and provide life jackets for everyone on board.
